Discover Quimperl\u00e9<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Quimperl\u00e9 is a relatively large town where you’ll find all kinds of services and stores. Don’t miss the Friday morning market. Strolls along the beautifully flowered riverbanks towards the daily fish market will take you into the medieval quarter of the town. Kemperle<\/em>, at the gateway to the Cornouaille region<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Quimperl\u00e9<\/strong>, or Kemperle<\/em> in Breton, is a port town in the South Finist\u00e8re<\/strong> department. On the border with Morbihan and not far from the Atlantic Ocean, this commune of over 12,000 Quimperlois enjoys a dynamic economy. What’s more, its main characteristic is that it is crossed by three rivers: Ell\u00e9, Isole and La\u00efta<\/strong>. This confluence of rivers means that the town is surrounded by water, offering a lovely harbor landscape with quays lined with beautiful stone houses and a flower-bedecked bridge. On these very quays, the city’s port and commercial activities were once in full swing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A distinction is made between the Basse Ville, a small peninsula surrounded by Ell\u00e9 and Isole, and the more recent Haute Ville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lower Town: at the heart of religious history<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The cradle of the town, it was on this peninsula that the Benedictine abbey of Sainte Croix<\/strong> was founded in the 11th century. This church is famous for its circular Romanesque design and had a very powerful role before gradually losing its power. Nevertheless, it remains a historical witness to its era, and a must-see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, in the 19th century, builders Moreau fr\u00e8res erected Les Halles<\/strong> a stone’s throw from the church. You’re sure to find something to please you in this beautiful indoor market.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

La Haute Ville: the dynamic medieval heart of Quimperl\u00e9<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
