From the end of the 19\u1d49 century, Pont-Aven<\/strong> saw the settlement of many artists, including Paul Gauguin<\/strong>, seduced by the marine luminosity and unique atmosphere of the town. Pont-Aven was then represented by the artists who created the Pont-Aven School. Museum history and exhibitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven<\/strong> was opened in June 1985. This human-sized museum aims to retrace the artistic life of Pont-Aven<\/strong> from 1860 to the middle of the 20th century. The museum brings together emblematic works by the Pont-Aven school<\/strong>, as well as by heirs to the style initiated by Paul Gauguin<\/strong> and his friends. You’ll be able to admire almost 500 paintings and drawings<\/strong>, over 600 prints<\/strong>, a dozen sculptures<\/strong> and decorative arts, as well as numerous photographs<\/strong>, ethnographic objects and postcards. Throughout the year, temporary exhibitions present major 20th-century artists in Brittany, the Impressionist movement initiated by Monet, and other artists who lived in Pont-Aven (Paul S\u00e9rusier, \u00c9mile Bernard, Louis Anquetin, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven<\/strong> has embarked on a digital initiative to make art accessible to all. The development of digital tools now enables access via the museum’s website to the museum’s online collections portal. You can also discover the different printmaking techniques through online videos, the Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven family podcast<\/strong> or a mini-series of short videos to help you better understand certain works in the museum’s collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven<\/strong> also houses a resource center, accessible free of charge by appointment only. It contains over 5,500 books and documents<\/strong>, mainly focusing on the Pont-Aven school. Last but not least, the Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven also caters for younger visitors, with educational and playful areas<\/strong> that allow them to discover the works in a different way during their visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practical information about the Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Mus\u00e9e de Pont-Aven<\/strong> is located on the Place Julia in Pont-Aven and is open to visitors every day of the week from 10am to 6pm (until 7pm in July and August). The museum is closed on May 01 and 08, and on Easter and Whitsun Mondays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two<\/strong> self-guided tours are available to suit all tastes: “l’essentiel”, a 10-step tour, or “de A \u00e0 Z” for an in-depth discovery. Various play areas are set aside for the little ones<\/strong> during the visit, and activities are available for them (booking required). A guided tour of the permanent collection is offered every Friday afternoon from February to December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
